Sky News contributor Sam Crosby says Donald Trump’s speech at the Republican National Convention will be “interesting” as he is expected to talk about how he will “bring the country together”.
Former US president Donald Trump survived an assassination attempt at his rally in Pennsylvania over the weekend.
Despite sustaining an injury to his ear from a flying bullet, the former president is still expected to attend the Republican National Convention on Tuesday.
“Trump’s messaging about his speech coming up is interesting – talking about how he’s going to bring the country together,” Mr Crosby told Sky News host James Morrow.
“I think the real opportunity here is now for him not to just capture his base and energise his base – that’s done … I think there is a chance for him to capture independents, which, up until yesterday, I didn’t think was possible.
“After the sympathy and the outpouring … for President Trump, the independents are genuinely up for grabs.”
