JustAnswer Customer: Mike
Pearl Wilson: Assistant: I'll do all I can to help.
Pearl Wilson: Assistant: How long have you been dealing with this?
JustAnswer Customer: I have a challenger SL20 (30-40)CN panel.
JustAnswer Customer: How can I determine if this is one of their high risk or recalled panel?
Pearl Wilson: Assistant: Do you plan on doing the work yourself?
JustAnswer Customer: No.
Pearl Wilson: Assistant: Anything else we should know to help you best?
JustAnswer Customer: I want to change out panel with my current renovation if this is a high risk issue
Pearl Wilson: Assistant: Just to clarify, are you working with a contractor?
JustAnswer Customer: yes.
Mike G.: Master Electrician: Hi,I'm Mike G and I'll be assisting you.
Mike G.: Master Electrician: Sylvania was bought out by Cutler Hammer a few years ago.
Mike G.: Master Electrician: The panel itself was never a problem.
Mike G.: Master Electrician: The split twin breakers were.
Mike G.: Master Electrician: Full size breakers comparable with that panel are available.
Mike G.: Master Electrician: They are Cutler Hammer BR series.
Mike G.: Master Electrician: Unless there is a main breaker or buss issue keep it.
JustAnswer Customer: The panel is Challenger not Sylvania.
JustAnswer Customer: Does that change your answer?
JustAnswer Customer: I have not had any issues, i have a new owner of the property.
JustAnswer Customer: Are you recommending to change out breakers?
Mike G.: Master Electrician: Challenger is a Sylvania Panel.
Mike G.: Master Electrician: No, you can use the existing breakers if the jaws grab the bus's firmly.
Mike G.: Master Electrician: If necessary, replacements are a Cutler Hammer BR series breaker.
JustAnswer Customer: Ok.
JustAnswer Customer: I will inspect it when I return to our home in Florida next week.
JustAnswer Customer: An electrican said on this topic: If you have a Challenger or Bryant or Westinghouse panel, I strongly recommend replacing the panel with a Square D QO or a Cutler Hammer CH series panel.
JustAnswer Customer: These are the 2 best on the market for your home and are of commercial grade.
JustAnswer Customer: I replace more Challengers and Bryants with burnt buss bars than I do even the old Federal Pacifics.
JustAnswer Customer: Also if the panel is over 25 Years old,it's time to consider replacing.
JustAnswer Customer: I have had a couple of strange situations where certain breakers kick off for no real apparent load.
JustAnswer Customer: Do you agree with him?
Mike G.: Master Electrician: I agreed replacement on Federal panels are necessary do to the failure of their breakers tripping properly.
Mike G.: Master Electrician: The Challenger panels are not automatically determined to be replaced.
Mike G.: Master Electrician: Upon inspection the decision to replace any manufacturers panel can be made.
Mike G.: Master Electrician: If it isn't broke, don't fix it.
Mike G.: Master Electrician: Some electricians build a job up for their financial betterment.
JustAnswer Customer: Ok.
JustAnswer Customer: Thank you for your assistance.
