This short Tassomai tutorial video explains the concept of irradiation and contamination and the difference between the two terms. It will help you learn and revise content required for all major GCSE specifications including AQA Separate, AQA Trilogy, AQA Synergy, Edexcel Combined, Edexcel Separate, OCR 21st Century, OCR Gateway, WJEC Combined, WJEC Separate, IGCSE, CIE Coordinated and CIE Separate. 3 key facts to remember about irradiation & contamination: 1- Radioactive materials emit ionising particles (radiation). If you are exposed to these materials, you are being IRRADIATED. This can have positive (intended) or negative (unintended) consequences. 2- If radioactive materials, leak, are spilled, or are distributed by an explosion, they cause CONTAMINATION. 3- Contaminating particles (maybe dissolved or like dust) may continue to emit radiation for many years, but can pass through the food chain and are extremely difficult to clean up.
