Cognitive therapy is a powerful tool that you can use to help you manage symptoms of depression, anxiety or other negative emotional states.  This video provides an explanation of how cognitive therapy works and the critical role that thoughts play in emotions.  We often experience emotional states as a result of some situation that has occurred.  However, cognitive therapy can help you recognize the role that your thoughts and interpretations play in how you feel about the situation.  So it’s not the situation that causes your emotional reaction, it is you interpretation to the situation that causes your emotional reaction.  This is how cognitive therapy works – if you change your interpretation about the situation, you change how you feel about the situation and that can make all the difference in the world!
