Baby glass eels and Elvers? "What you talkin' 'bout Willis?", I bet you are asking. Whelp, baby glass eels are the little spawn of North American eels that are born in the Sargasso sea way out in the Atlantic ocean. As tiny fry they make their way to the mouths of freshwater rivers up and down the coast and then swim, crawl and climb upriver deep into the continent to live out their lives. After 20 years or so, they journey back down the river and swim back out to the Sargasso sea to mate and die. Thus their cycle of life begins anew.

During the time they are very small, hardy and first making their way up river as babies, a small portion of them are harvested by elvers under permit from the states to be sold to buyers, mostly in China and Japan, who raise them for several years and then the mature eels are butchered and eaten by hoomans as sushi, etc.
