DEFINITION:
Drug license is a permission granted by the competent authority under Drugs and Cosmetic Act, 1940 to carry out a business concerning drugs/medicines or cosmetics. In other words, no person can start or continue a business dealing with drugs or cosmetics in India, unless an appropriate license is obtained for the conduct of such activity. It is location based activities and for every location/premise situated within or outside a state, separate application for license has to be filed before authorities concerned.
ELIGIBILITY:
☞Any person/company/partnership firm/ LLP/OPC can apply for Drug License at Drug Controlling Authority.

What is the minimum area requirements for drug license?
For Retail - Minimum area required is 10 sq. meters.
For Wholesale - Minimum Area required is 10 sq. meters
For Wholesale cum retail - Minimum Area required is 15 sq. meters.
It is also to be noted that the ceiling height should be at least 9.5 feet.
Who is a competent person?
A competent person is an individual who has to be employed at the premises and should be experienced enough to deal in the drugs stored at the desired premise.
Retail Drug license the Competent person has to be a registered pharmacist from the state pharmacy council while in Wholesale Drug License the competent person is to have the experience of working in a drug store/company, preferably situate in the same state where license to be applied at.
What are the important documents to be submitted for competent person?
For a competent person, one is supposed to submit the address and identity proof documents along-with registration certificate with state pharmacy council, experience letter or resignation letter. Degree of B.pharma/M.pharma, Matriculation certificate.
