DESCHUTES SALMONFLIES | Fly Fishing On The Deschutes River At The Beginning Of The Famous Hatch

It was time to get back out to the Big D for the beginning of the famous Salmonfly and Stonefly hatch. I had some good success on previous trips fishing the nymphs as they started to make their swim towards the shore to hatch.

This hatch needs a few things to line up for it to be "lights out" and each year there is a variable that might affect just how well you'll do, but if you time it right, there can be a few weeks of some of the best dry fly fishing you will ever experience.

I was able to spend a few days out there right at the beginning of the hatch and it was perfect. The weather was incredibly nice and the fish were just starting to key into the big bugs on the surface. This year is looking like a good one and I can't wait to get back out and fish more of the hatch before it finishes.
