This video is a great demonstration of the quick and effective testing methods I teach for O2 sensors. No service information or wiring diagrams required here! All methods shown apply to any four-wire zirconia O2 sensor you’ll come across in the field, not just Mitsubishi.
Engine Performance Diagnostics chapter 5
Symptoms
- check engine light (P0174, P0154, P0155, P0138, P0303)
Fix
- replaced the bank 2 sensor 1 O2 sensor
Tests shown
- using scan data (O2 signal and fuel trims) to evaluate O2 sensor performance
- how to use a downstream O2 signal to check if the upstream sensor is lying
- how to use rapid throttle snaps to create a rich condition without propane/carb clean
- how to use scan data while unplugging sensors to identify sensor locations
- using sensor-side O2 wire colors to identify signal and heater circuits without a diagram
- checking for a bias voltage on a O2 sensor signal circuit
- how to perform an O2 signal circuit integrity test
- measuring voltage levels on an O2 signal circuit during the integrity test
