This video is Part 1 of my timing chain kit replacement for my 5.4L 3V 2013 4x4 Ford Expedition EL Limited. I watched the step-by-step tutorial by @FordTechMakuloco on how to perform the complete timing job and I wanted to see if I could DIY this job myself from start to finish. I documented as much of the process as I was able to help out anyone else with a Ford expedition who might be trying to tackle this job themselves, but I highly recommend going to watch the step-by-step timing replacement video series by @FordTechMakuloco to learn all the necessary skills and parts to DIY this job. He lists out all the required parts for the job as well.

In Part 1 I remove all the necessary components to gain access to the engine valve covers and the front cover. Part two will show the valve covers and front cover being removed and the old timing components being removed. Part 3 I install the timing kit components, the lifter and roller followers, and replace the front cover and valve covers. I also include some video on Part 3 about replacing the oil pan.

- In order to have the this job performed at a dealer or auto shop I would expect to pay between 4-5k. I spent around 1500 total on all the parts and tools necessary for this job, literally saving thousands of dollars by doing this myself.

- The total time it took me to do this job from start to finish was about 50 hours, but it took me longer because I had to replace my oil pan as well. It was also my first time ever doing this job before. This job is no joke and not going to be done in one or even two days, but if done correctly it can be DIY, but be willing to have the time and energy before beginning this job because once it is started you can't quit until it is done. Also be very careful not to break anything else while doing this job. I learned some hard lessons from experience. ( Don't drop a bolt in your oil pan...)

- I do my best to show each step in progress, but occassionally I have to explain what I'm doing because I can't film and work at the same time. (I don't have any fancy filming gear yet)

Part 1 includes the following:
