2014 babies- Pachino and Cassino are the first pair of the season. Almost two weeks old and getting out of their pens and bouncing all around. So fun to watch them bounce and play. Farmers say that bottle fed baby goats are so friendly. These are not bottle fed babies and I don't think we want them any friendlier. We don't believe that it's the bottle feeding that makes them friendly; it's the interaction they get everyday. Did you notice daddy sticking his head out to say hello. Did you notice those horns? He's two this spring. Romeo is an alpine goat. His horns can be very dangerous, we respect him but he is pretty calm most of the time. Rutting season is a bit different. Our children don't play in his pen during that time. He gets pushy but with our without horns, he would be like that. All of our goats have their horns. They are natural and serve a purpose. Yes, they can be dangerous. Yes, accidents can happen. We have had to cut fence before to get their heads uncaught. I understand why farmers dehorn but we have a small herd that is easily managed and we are with them every day. Their horns are beautiful. Our original momma, the white saanan with the newest baby in the pen, is the only one we have without horns. We bought her that way. She does fine without them but she seems the most pushy and aggressive of all the herd. But back to the babies; aren't they so cute and lovable?!
