Mir Zafar [1757 - 1760 AD]
* Robert Clive of the success of the Plassey war made Mir Zafar the Nawab of Bengal. At the same time, the courtier of Murshidabad, Hazir Tabiat, named Mir Zafar the ass of Robert Clive.
* It was during the reign of Mir Zafar that the British started the policy of 'divide and rule'.
* 1759 AD Vedra's war took place between the British and the Dutch, in which the British won and the Dutch were defeated by this war. At the time of the Vedra War, the Governor of the East India Company was Robert Clive.
* Robert Clive moved back to England in February 1760 AD and was replaced by J.V. Z. Halwell was made the temporary governor of the East India Company. After some time, Vensittart was made permanent governor.
* Mir Jaffer did not welcome Governor Vansittart. Governor Vensittart wrote a letter to the English Council based in Calcutta stating that "Nawab Mir Jaffer is very cruel, angry, greedy, villainous and will shed blood of innocent persons".
* In September 1760 AD, a settlement was reached between Governor Vensittart and Mir Qasim, in which Governor Vansittart proposed to make Mir Qasim the new Nawab of Bengal, which also included certain conditions.
1. Mir Qasim agreed to give the East India Company the territories of Bardhaman, Midnapore and Chittagong.
2. Mir Qasim accepted to reduce the number of his army.
3. Mir Qasim will consider the enemies of the East India Company as his enemy.
* In October 1760, Governor Vansittart reached Murshidabad with the English army and replaced Mir Jaffer with his son-in-law Mir Qasim as the new Nawab of Bengal.
* Mir Jaffer was sent from Murshidabad to Calcutta on a monthly pension of Rs 15000.
Mir Qasim [1760 - 1763 AD]
* Mir Qasim was the son-in-law of Mir Jaffer, the Nawab of Bengal.
* Mir Qasim was made the new Nawab of Bengal by Governor Vansittart in October 1760 AD.
* Mir Qasim first reconstituted his army after forming the Nawab and appointed Samru, a German officer for this.
* Mir Qasim shifted his capital from Murshidabad to Munger (in modern Vihara).
* Mir Qasim imposed new taxes and increased old taxes to improve the economic condition of Bengal.
* In June 1763, on the instructions of Mir Kasim, Samru, a German officer in Patna, killed Ellis, Ramnarayan, Jagat Seth, Rai Narayan, Asha Rai, Raj Vallabh etc. This incident is known in history as 'Patna massacre' because they were all opposed to Mir Qasim.
* After the Patna assassination, the British removed Mir Qasim from the post of Nawab and again made Mir Jaffer the Nawab of Bengal. Mir Qasim escaped with some army and took refuge in Awadh Nawab Shuja-ud-Dhaula and at this time Mughal ruler Shah Alam II was also present in Awadh.
Mir Jaffer [1763 - 1765 AD]
* In July 1763 AD, Mir Jaffer was again made the Nawab of Bengal and Nand Kumar was made his minister. At this time Mir Jafar granted special exemption to the British in trade.
* In 1764 AD, Mir Qasim again tried to make Nawab of Bengal. In this effort, Awadh formed a joint army with Nawab Shuja-ud-Dhaula and Mughal ruler Shah Alam II.
* In October 1764, the combined forces of Mir Qasim, Shuja-ud-Dhaula and the Mughal ruler Shah Alam II camped in the grounds of Buxar (in modern Vihara). The British army was led by Hector Munro, which included some of the army of Mir Jaffer, the Nawab of Bengal. The battle of Buxar took place on 22–23 October 1764, in which the British won and Nawab Shuja-ud-Dhaula of Awadh and the Mughal ruler Shah Alam II surrendered and Mir Qasim fled to Delhi.
| After winning the Buxar War, the establishment of British power in India had begun. The governor of the East India Company was Vensittart at the time of Buxar War.
* In February 1765 AD, Nawab of Bengal Mir Jaffer died and after this the Governor of East India Company, Vensittart made Mir Jaffer's young adult son Najm-ud-Dhaula the Nawab of Bengal but retained all the rights.
