Algeria:Tough times for famed fig farmers

Even though  the dried figs of Beni Maouche, northern Algeria, a major producer of the fruit in  the country received the Geographic Indication label last year, farmers  keep complaining about their  struggles to ensure that their parcelled figs are exported with ease.

The label may have given the products recognition and protection in both local and international markets, but as Armelle Nga and Elvis Boh report, more support is needed from government.…
