Lead VS Gamma Radiation demonstration

Demonstrating how lead shielding does not magically stop gamma radiation from penetrating it as some people presume. The thickness of the lead is very important as well as distance from the source. The easiest way of thinking about it, is like sound or heat insulation rather than armour. The thicker it is the more effective, yet some will always get through unless the shielding is incredibly thick. Make sure if you have radioactive samples you use an adequate amount of shielding and most importantly place the materials in a position that they are far from people or animals. It's important to have a Geiger counter/Ion chamber etc set up so you can measure the amount of gamma escaping and make adjustments as needed.
