Beretta APX A1

Welcome back everyone, thanks for joining us today.  Hope you all had a Merry Christmas and great holiday with your family and friends!

Today we are going to go over the new Beretta APX A1.  The original Beretta APX didn’t go over so well in the US market so we are going to go over this new A1 version and what has changed!

So lets start with the Beretta name.  Whether you are looking at this APX or any of the firearms in beretta’s line up, you are getting a firearm from the oldest firearm company in the world!  Beretta was started way back in 1526 making it an almost 500 year old company at this point.  That right there should tell you a lot about there products and support!

The New A1 version of the APX has totally solved those issues and relaunched the APX in the form that I believe it should have been to begin with!  The slide has a totally new look and now has slide serrations that are not only functional, but cosmetics pleasing as well.  The new facelift they did to this firearm is really good in my opinion.  The slide has a nice finish that is both chemical and corrosion resistant so it will stand up to hard use and conditions.

The APX A1 is a striker fired handgun and has a 17+1 round capacity.  It comes with two 17 round magazines.  This APX A1 has a 4.25” barrel and weights in at roughly 29 ounces empty.  In the box it does come with a couple different grip panels, although I did not change them as I like the feel of the one that comes on it already.

This APX A1 comes with blacked out rear sight and a tridium front sight giving you some night capability.  It also comes optic ready.  We got this APX with the Burris optic factory mounted on it.  I am personally not a fan of the Burris optic and much prefer the Holosun optics, but for the package price we couldn’t pass it up.
These APX A1’s are running roughly $475 for gun by itself, and we got this package with the Burris optic on it for $550 here locally.

The ergonomics of this firearm are very good and I have really enjoyed shooting it.  The trigger undercut feels really nice and allows for a good and high grip for great control when shooting.  The extended beaver tail also plays into that grip feel as well and makes recoil on this firearm extremely controllable and a pleasure to shoot.

It has ambi slide release control which is nice.  However im not sure if its on all the APX A1’s or just this one in particular, but the slide release on right side for left handed shooters is noticeable harder to use than the one for right handed shooters.  We have roughly 250 rounds through this APX and it is still really hard to manipulate for me as a left handed shooter.

It has a 3 slot picittani rail on the front for a wide variety of lights or lasers if you so choose to add one.

The trigger has a safety lever, however is flat faced one that is depressed.  The trigger has very little takeup, a decent wall, and a quick reset.  The pull weight is rougly 5.5 pounds.  This trigger is not terrible, but could be better for sure.  I only have 250 rounds through it though so it may be like some guns and improve as it gets broken in.

Reliability of this Beretta APX A1 has been excellent.  Its ran flawlessly in the rounds we have put through it and I expect that to continue for the long run with this firearm.

The Brazilian government actually did testing with this firearm and required it to shoot 10,000 rounds without being cleaned which is on the crazy side if you ask me.  It passed all the test with flying colors so it just goes to show you how well Beretta has built these guns.

These APX A1’s have fire control chassic systems so you can swap frames as you choose.  This is nice for states with stricter gun control laws as it allows you to have one gun and change to multiple frames as you see fit.

The slide rails are stainless steel and are longer than you normally see in a striker fired gun.  I believe this also helps and plays into how well and smooth this firearm shoots.

To put back together simply slide the slide back onto the frame and slide rails.  When you pull back to rack the firearm it will slide the take down lever back to operating position.  I would still suggest double checking that though as part of your function test and trigger test after putting it back together.

Overall this firearm has really impressed me and I am super glad to see that Beretta relaunced this APX A1 with the updates and upgrades that made the original APX not sell very well.  Both models are great weapons and perform very well, the A1 just fine tuned all the details and made it even better!
If you are in the market for a full size handgun I would definitely recommend you taking the APX A1 into consideration for your next firearm.  It’s a solid firearm and backed by the oldest gun company in the world!
