Tested making a waterwheel.  Still need to modify.  Super fun and more challenging than you think:)

Here is the basic project:
Waterwheel Challenge

Challenge:
Design & build a water wheel that can lift a cup/bucket with the materials provided

Supplies:
Multiple plastic tubs, large pitchers and bucket for testing (see pictures below)
Plastic cups, paper plates, styrofoam plates, straws, paper cups, index cards, cardboard, yarn, large dowels (⅜” x 12” or 24 - we taped the 12” together or 3 straws connected with tape) craft sticks, plastic spoons, plastic coffee cup lids, tape & scissors
Towels, tarp and paper towels (this challenge uses water)

Testing:
Set-up multiple testing stations. Put a bucket inside a large plastic tub to catch the extra water.  The water wheels will be tested in the bucket, so make sure that it is large enough (at least 9” x 12”) for the water wheels to fit.
The bucket needs to have a way for the dowel to spin.  We used large binder clips.
Have multiple cups with yarn attached to them at each testing station.  The students will tie the yarn with the cup to the dowel hanging over the edge of the table.
Pour water over the water wheel to turn and lift the bucket to the edge of the table.  Try adding weights once successful.

Sharing:
Discuss materials, what worked, what didn’t - how would you improve?
