This EDI Gathering was an open conversation about asexual and aromatic experiences and perspectives with special guests, “D." Eng (they/them/theirs), Allyn (they/them), and Van (he/they).
In this fishbowl conversation, our special guests take a deep look at what each of these identities are, how folks with these identities are present in our communities, and how they are (in)visible within the LGBTQ+ and Christian communities.
“D." Eng (they/them/theirs) is asexual, aromantic and trans. They have been a part of the QCF community since 2017. A native New Yorker, D. found their 'home' at AcesNYC and Forefront Church, where they also serve on the Leadership Team. After coming out, they are making up for lost time by advocating for the visibility and inclusion of the asexual and trans communities, particularly in faith-based spaces. They are a fierce believer in breaking binaries, enthusiastic consent, co-parenting and chosen families. They dream of one day living in an intentional community house full of queer folks, their kids, and their pets.
Allyn (they/them) is a self-described "full-time nerd" who works as a craftsperson in the heart of New York City's fashion district. When not engaged in video games or their latest costuming project, they enjoy using their perspectives as a non-binary aromantic asexual to raise awareness and create space for a broad spectrum of non-traditional relationships, family structures, and experiences of intimacy.
Van (he/they) is a queer, Christian, triple-A threat (AroAceAgender) in the back half of his 30’s living with his partner, Allyn, their brother Ezra, and their 2 cats, Beans and Jenny. He likes being a walking contradiction because it makes people ask questions he loves answering. He’s passionate about cultivating deep conversations about diversity, nuance, & understanding.
