Here is a diagnosis for a BMW running rough. After taking his 2006 BMW 760 Series to the dealer and having spark plugs and ignition coils replaced, along with some other work, the customer's vehicle was still running rough. Our technician found the root cause of the problem, which was the diaphragms on top of the high pressure fuel pumps had ruptured, leaking fuel back in through the vent system and dumping raw fuel into the intake. This causes rough idle, poor fuel mileage and the check engine light to come on.
