A fascinating sighting of leopard
A fascinating sighting of leopard behavior and big cat interaction that we experienced at the end of June 2023 in the Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park.
A courting leopard couple was separated by 2 male lions at a water hole in the Nossob river. We presume the lions had separated the couple during the night or very early in the morning before we arrived. The 2 leopards waited for hours for the male lions to lose interest and eventually move off. The young female leopard, named Gorid, was very determined to be reunited with the male leopard, named Athule, who had been stranded up a tree by the lions.
Gorid is just over 3 years old, and she is looking to have her first litter soon. Once the lions had moved off and they were reunited, she was very focused on showing off her agility and climbing skills as well as presenting herself to the male. Not too impressed by her performance, he seemed rather grumpy after the lions had ruined his morning!
