One of the very first attractions at the famed Knott's Berry Farm is the Ghost Town & Calico Railroad, which boasts a collection of old D&RGW and RGS equipment. A trip on the GT&C instills the romance of the Old West, which aims to bring its riders back to the peak of the American Frontier, a time when railroads were held on a high pedestal.

The locomotive featured in this video is Rio Grande Southern 41 built in 1881 by the Baldwin Locomotive Works. Originally constructed for the Denver & Rio Grande Western, she was assigned the number 409, until eventually sold to the RGS, where she was given the number she currently wears. For the 60th Anniversary of the GT&C, she was named "Walter K" after Walter Knott, the founder of the original berry farm that was on the grounds currently taken up by the park. After decades of tirelessly running around the park, 41 was shipped off to the Durango & Silverton, where she underwent a major overhaul and rebuild. She was returned to Knott's in December 2023 and has been running like a new engine ever since.
