Today we are preparing a wholesome little breakfast for Lammas or Lughnasadh.  A beehive-shaped honey and lavender bread with a sweet vanilla forest berry and cherry jam.
Lughnasadh, or Lammas as it is called in Christian context, is one of the Wiccan Sabbaths celebrating the harvest season on the 1st of August in the northern hemisphere. The southern hemisphere will mainly celebrate it on the 1st of February. This festival in the Wiccan wheel of the year is not only celebrated by Wiccans but also by the neopagan and witch community worldwide.
Bread is a very popular item to prepare for this specific day as the ethymololgie of the word Lammas does come originally from Loaf mass, and the tradition of bringing a freshly baked bread, made from the first crop, to church.
Lughnasadh, which is the pagan term, and proceeded the Christian customs that it influenced, is in essence celebrating the same thing. The festival is named after the Celtic god Lugh. It was a day to celebrate the first harvest of crops and fruit and offerings to the gods where made, usually on sacred places and up on top of hills and mountains.
Celebrating the spirit of this harvest festival, I thought it was a fun idea to get out and about in nature, see what has been growing and what treats mother nature is offering us and then celebrate this happy day with a home-made summer breakfast. This recipe for honey bread is inspired by a recipe from the world of warcraft cookbook.

Ingredients

Honey Lavander Bread recipe

1 /4 cup warm water
3 /4 cup rolled oats
1 /2 cup warm milk
2 tablespoons butter, melted
1 /2 cup honey
2 teaspoons instant dry yeast
1 1 /2 teaspoons salt
1 tablespoon culinary lavender buds
1 egg
Up to 5 cups of flour

Wild Berry, Cherry & Vanilla jam (big batch, around 300ml mason jars)
2 cups raspberries
2 cups cherries
2 cups blueberries
1.5 cups sugar
2/4 cup fresh lemon juice
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
