Academia or Industry: Thoughts on career paths for my younger self

Deciding whether to take a path in academia, or maybe a role in industry such as at a large company or startup? I share a summary of these different career paths, trade-offs, and other considerations that I would have loved to have known when I was younger. After years in both academia and industry (I was a former Stanford grad student and a current full timer at a large company), I learned quite a bit from my own experiences and those of others. These are some thoughts.
