What happens when you try to watch from a monitor and your video on YouTube just won't go into full screen mode? This solution will fix your problem. PLEASE READ BELOW, IMPORTANT INFORMATION ON NEW CHROME CHANGES.
There are annotations in the video to guide you through if you have hearing impairment or sound issues too.
Since 2017, google has removed the chrome://plugins feature and it's no longer available: to do this step now, you press the settings button (3 dots) then press settings, then press "show advanced settings" at the bottom - then go down to privacy, then press content settings. Once there, go to protected content and make sure the "Allow sites to play protected content" is checked. Tick the box and press "Finished".
Accessing settings without typing: To get into this setting without typing in the URL bar, select the 3 lines button, select setting/show advanced settings/content settings (under privacy)/manage individual settings (under plugins title)
