Malakoff Diggins - and the
Malakoff Diggins - and the lost town of Humbug, Ca - later renamed North Bloomfield - now a Ghost town sitting alongside the site of one of the most insanely destructive forms of gold rush era mining, Hydraulic mining - whole mountainsides were blasted away with high pressure water hoses, and even 150+ years later the diggings and the streams and rivers have not recovered - Eventually Hydraulic mining was outlawed, shutting down operations and leading to the abandonment of North Bloomfield - Eventually all becoming part of Malakoff Diggins state park! We visited as part of a research trip but it was just too amazing and too beautiful not to share! Follow us from Malakoff to Nevada City, CA before we GO HOME & SCHLEEP WELL! And if you think this Ghost Town is neat... wait til you see the amazing abandoned town we go to next!!!!!!!
