I discuss the Malaysian blowback to my joke in this interview with ABC. Actual interview starts 1:16.
Probably the aspect that annoys me the most about the blowback I've been getting is the criticism that I "went too far" or have been "heartless" or "insensitive." Even from comedians who themselves have done Malaysian airlines/MH370 jokes but are now pretending to be all holier than thou.
While I can see how someone can get personally upset or offended, professionally, I am well within the bounds of what is acceptable for a comedian to touch on. Malaysian airlines/MH370 jokes are done all the time in Malaysia AND Singapore (See for e.g. Singaporean comedian discuss how Malaysian comedians, even the ones criticizing me, have been doing MH370 jokes for YEARS Live from the Table: Jocelyn Chia (about 22:45 onwards)). So by industry standards, I have not broken any norms both in Singapore/Malaysia or America, where we have literally thousands of 9/11 jokes (just google 9/11 jokes). And look at the number of twitter jokes about the missing submarine already out there! These comedians didn't even give it a DAY.
Alright, this got pedantic. Next video I post will be a comedy video I promise :)
