Specialist Douglas Girton explores the extraordinary Daltrey collection of automata which sold in Lyon & Turnbull's September 2016 Fine Furniture auction - a collection including a comprehensive group of seven late 19th century automata, by some of the best-known and much skilled craftsmen working in France during the 'Golden Age of Automata'. What makes this collection, which features works by Gustave Vichy and Leopold Lambert, noteworthy is not only the rarity of some of the automata, but their being in good, unrestored and original condition.
