Battlefield Acupuncture (BFA) is now
Battlefield Acupuncture (BFA) is now available in the Occupational Therapy Clinic of Irwin Army Community Hospital. BFA is non-drug treatment of chronic pain, headaches, sleep disturbances and anxiety.
In Battlefield Acupuncture a sequence of semi-permanent needles are placed at up to five specific sites in one or both ears. BFA is purported to influence the central nervous system pain processing. It has been suggested that auricular therapies cause the release of β-endorphins to elicit short-term analgesia or anti-inflammatory cytokines for long-term effects.
The Occupational Therapy Clinic has a walk-in BFA service every Wednesday 11 a.m. - noon. No referral is required.
