Lake City High School students walked out on Friday in response to the Coeur d'Alene School District's levies failing.

Students organized the walkout on Wednesday to stand in solidarity with staff to support funding in schools. They used the phrase, "Without support, our schools fall short."

LCHS administration is fully backing the students' right to walk out.

The walkout comes after the CDA School District postponed 8th Grade Family Night due to the uncertainty of what programs will be offered at LCHS and Coeur d'Alene High School next school year.

For context, the $25 million supplemental and $5 million plant facilities levies failed on March 14. These levies were for the district's operating budget and maintenance projects.

The district will try again and is reintroducing the supplemental levy to voters on May 16. If it doesn't pass, the district says it will have to cut roughly 310 positions, class sizes would increase, and extracurriculars like sports would be slashed.
