In 1970, to solve the problem of transporting workers from Saltovka to industrial enterprises in the Ordzhonikidzovsky (now Industrial) district of Kharkov, a new tram line with a length of 8 km was built. Its construction began from the Yuzhkabel plant along Traktorostroiteley Avenue.
In order to more effectively connect the Saltovsky residential area with other areas of the city by underground transport, it was decided to build a separate Saltovskaya line of the Kharkov metro along Akademika Pavlova Street. The project provided for the possibility of a branch line from the main line to Vostochnaya Saltovka from the Barabashova station. The beginning of the construction of the Saltovskaya line is usually dated from April 16, 1977, when the Pushkinskaya station was founded.
