The initial design was for the extermination of an alien species. It was then used, of course, on people. The MK.2 keeps to the legacy of being feared by soft targets everywhere. Though even gameplay wise the flamethrower covering multiple soft targets are simply annihilated by this thing, not just flavor text. So go out there and be a mechanized pyro.
