The volume-weighted average price (VWAP)
The volume-weighted average price (VWAP) is a technical analysis indicator used on intraday charts.In this video CA Akshatha Udupa has explained all about VWAP. You will learn how to identify the false breakout in VWAP strategy.
You will also learn how best can VWAP indicator be used to increase the success rate in intraday trading. VWAp cannot be used for larger timeframes. VWAP is used by many traders in their intraday trading.
Applying VWAP on any random stock will not give good results. It has to be applied on selected stocks and is to be used along with another indicator to get best results.
VWAP is a trading benchmark that represents the average price a security has traded at throughout the day, based on both volume and price.
VWAP represents a view of price action throughout a single day's trading session.
Retail and professional traders may use the VWAP to help them determine intraday price trends.
VWAP = Cumulative Typical Price x Volume/Cumulative Volume
Institutional buyers including mutual funds use VWAP to help move into or out of stocks with as small of a market impact as possible. Therefore, when they can, institutions will try to buy below the VWAP, or sell above it.
This way their actions push the price back toward the average, instead of away from it
