DEARBORN, Mich. (WXYZ) - Students at U of M Dearborn are gathering Wednesday night at 7:30 for a candlelight vigil to honor the there lives taken during a shooting at the University of North Carolina Chapel Hill
The three Muslim students were allegedly shot by a man named Craig Hicks.
Investigators say, at this point, it appears a dispute over a parking spot may have led to the shooting. However, many are wondering if it was a hate crime.
Sarah Elhelou is a senior at U of M Dearborn. She's one of the students planning tonight's candlelight vigil.
"It's just a way for us to come together and talk about what happened and what we feel. A lot of students are just devastated," she says.
Warda Kalim is an attorney for CAIR Michigan, The Council on American-Islamic Relations.
"We're hoping federal authorities conduct a full investigation. We're not saying it was a hate crime or domestic terrorism, but they should explore all avenues," Kalim said.
The vigil is happening outside the University Center on U of M Dearborn's campus All are welcome to attend.
"We still don't know if religion was it. I hope it's not, but I hope it's investigated because if it is we need to resolve it," Huda Ismail, a freshman at U of M Dearborn said.
