The BJP might have faced a setback nationally but in Odisha, it defied expectations and ended the 25 year rule of the Naveen Patnaik led Biju Janata Dal government. Not only the assembly polls, the BJD suffered a big loss of face in the Lok Sabha polls too, where it could not win even one of the 21 seats as against BJP’s 19. The remaining one seat was one by the Congress.
