The first magnitude spring system that forms the Rainbow River has an average discharge rate of 493 million gallons per day and is one of 33 first magnitude spring systems in the State of Florida. The river flows south from the headspring complex approximately 5.7 miles to the tannic Withlacoochee River. We booked 2 campsites at the Florida State Park Rainbow Springs Campground, sites 55 & 56, and paddled up river to the Rainbow Springs State Park where the headspring is at. Along the way we saw stunning nature and a breathtaking route through a spring fed creek with crystal clear refreshing waters trickling through the forest. Absolutely magical!
