The tamale trail of the
The tamale trail of the Mississippi Delta is as good a reason to travel to the Deep South as any. I’ve always believed if you have a good meal waiting for you at the end of a journey you are willing to go near anywhere. The Mississippi Hot Tamale took me up the Blues Highway 61 from Jackson to Vicksburg through to Greenville. Guided by only cornmeal and beef spiked with cayenne pepper wrapped in tiny corn husk packets, I discovered the side of Southern Food that makes it special, dedicated independent restaurant owners, doing a couple things really well. People often go to Mississippi for music and they absolutely should, but don’t forget the tamales.
