BABY ORANGUTAN RESCUED!

BABY ORANGUTAN BOMBAN RESCUED After a tip-off from local villagers that an orangutan was being kept illegally as a pet by a farmer, an IAR Indonesia education team that was working nearby investigated further. Upon confirming the location of the orangutan, last month the BKSDA and IAR Indonesia teams arrived at the village to rescue him. The team named the baby Bomban. Estimated to be one year old, he had been kept captive for the past three months in a tiny wooden cage measuring about 50x40cm. He was fed on a diet of rice, biscuits, cucumber, drinking water and sweet condensed milk. Fortunately, his state of health did not seem too bad, but further examinations are required during his eight-week quarantine to confirm exactly what kind of condition he is in. It is a very positive sign that the local villagers knew to report the existence of a captive orangutan so that he didn’t end up spending his entire life behind bars.
