For the days where you need something more than your daily trainer but don’t quite want to be in your racing shoes, there are the tempo or speedwork shoes. And these are my Top 5 Tempo Running Shoes that were released in 2023.

Peba, no plate
Lightweight and breathable
Great workout shoe for my 5k/10k racer friends
Hoka Cielo Road
Invincible 3
Awkward for recovery running and easy day
But goes all day at moderate paces

Split Personality - Invincible Run 3
Prime X2 Strung
Category busting - carbon, light strike Pro, heavy
Excels at long run workouts, loves tempo pace
A bit more stable this year - get back to the unhinged chaos of the original

Most underrated shoe of the year
All peba no plate
Kinvara lover’s dream - perfect for fast running
Extra wide toe box

One of my favorite shoes of the year
Nitro elite foam and a plate - speedwork
But comfortable enough for easy runs
Plenty of rubber for durability to pair with long lasting upper
