Harold Bloom in a small class seminar setting discusses the nature of Emerson's work and the reactions by his contemporaries: Thoreau, Melville, Whitman, etc. He makes reference to the structure of the American literature with tropes from the past and present. It is interesting to hear him weave new clothes from old threads. He may be on (or off) the mark but he's entertaining to say the least (that is if you value intellect and creativity). This is obviously not for those that have a short attention span, [NOTE: The tapes for the classes of 4/11 and 4/18 as well as the first 45 minutes of this 4/25 class have gone missing. My apologies.]
