As Kia technology continues to evolve, so does Driver Assist technology, and today we are going to cover two specific features that may be found on your Kia
The first is Lane Departure Warning, the other is Lane-Keeping Assist-Line.
Remember these systems are not available on all Kia models, nor are they substitutes for safe driving.
Let’s get started …
The Lane Departure warning system uses a windshield mounted sensor and is designed to monitor the vehicle position relative to its lane in certain conditions.
This vision-based system uses advanced algorithms to interpret and estimate proper roadway alignment.
To activate this system, press this button – while the engine is running, usually on the left side of the dashboard …
You will see an indicator light in the instrument panel, confirming the system has been activated.
Two lane stripes will appear next to the vehicle icon in the center display.
Please keep in mind, the system will not activate until the vehicle reaches a minimum speed of about forty miles per hour …
Once activated, the indicator will change from white to green.
The system is designed to monitor the position of the vehicle and can provide an audible alert as well as display an alert on the instrument cluster if it senses you moving out of your lane.
If your vehicle is equipped with Lane Keeping Assist-Line, this feature may intervene, depending on the road conditions, by applying corrective steering if it senses you drifting outside your lane.
Please keep in mind, not every Kia with Lane Departure Warning has this feature, but it is available on select newer models.
If equipped, the Land Keeping Assist is set by default to Standard LKA.
If you’d like to change the setting to Active LKA or just Lane Departure Warning only, go to User Settings on the Instrument Cluster and select Driver Assistance, then Lane Safety.
Then scroll to your choice and select by pressing the OK button on the Steering Wheel.
The difference is -- the Active system may provide corrective steering.
When set to Lane Departure Warning only, however, the system will provide an alert you if move out of your lane, without corrective steering.
