ISO 22000 and FSSC 22000 are both standards focused on food safety management systems, but they have distinct differences. ISO 22000 is an international standard that outlines the requirements for a food safety management system, applicable to all organizations in the food chain, from farm to fork. It integrates the principles of Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points (HACCP) with prerequisite programs (PRPs) and emphasizes risk management, communication, and continuous improvement. FSSC 22000, on the other hand, is a certification scheme that builds upon ISO 22000 by adding specific requirements from ISO/TS 22002-1 (or other applicable PRPs) and additional scheme requirements set by the Foundation FSSC. This makes FSSC 22000 a more comprehensive certification, recognized by the Global Food Safety Initiative (GFSI), and often preferred by global retailers and food manufacturers. In summary, while ISO 22000 provides the foundational framework for food safety management, FSSC 22000 offers a more detailed and globally recognized certification that includes additional prerequisites and requirements.
