Libya detains 1900 Europe bound migrants

(25 May 2016) Zawiya oil refinery coastguards on Tuesday rescued over 500 migrants en route to Europe from Libya.
With the help of oil tanker fishing vessels, Libyan coast guards have rescued over 1,900 people in the last three days alone.
Many migrants who are intercepted trying to reach Europe are kept in detention centres on Libyan soil.
Libya's Zawiya detention center for migrants is one of the most crowded centers in Libya due to the location and long shores of the coastal city.
Thousands of migrants seeking a better life in Europe cast off from Libya on rickety boats, hoping to reach Italy with many drowning on the way.
Smugglers have exploited Libya's internal turmoil to ship thousands of desperate migrants into the Mediterranean Sea towards Europe, as the new UN backed government is battling for control.
