Author Margaret Weitekamp, curator at the Smithsonian’s National Air and Space Museum, will speak live from Intrepid Museum's free astronomy night.

Her book, Space Craze ( https://amzn.to/3PsoyAk ), examines Americans’ long-lasting obsession with real and fictional spaceflight, spanning from the 1929 debut of Buck Rogers to the contemporary billionaire space race. Margaret will act as tour guide through museum objects—from a replica Spock foam ear tip made by a Star Trek fan to the vest worn by NASA Chief of Flight Control Gene Kranz during Apollo 13—to show how small and often ordinary items represent foundational ideas about national identity, social justice, gender roles, and cultural imagination. The book pays tribute to almost a century’s worth of real-life space achievements, beloved sci-fi media, and ardent fans of them both.

Today's show is hosted by John Galloway
