Players Coalition: Digital Pioneers Academy Grant Announcement

In October 2019, the Players Coalition announced a $60,000 grant to Digital Pioneers Academy in Washington DC. Players Coalition member Josh Norman visited Digital Pioneers Academy to meet with students and faculty and announce a grant funding the opening of the school’s “Innovation Lab.” DPA is a Title 1, computer science-focused middle school whose mission is to develop the next generation of innovators. DPA prepares scholars to meet or exceed the highest academic standards and cultivates the strength of character necessary to both graduate from four-year colleges and thrive in 21st-century careers.

The academy is perfectly situated to further the Players Coalition’s 2019-2020 education objective of bridging the technology and resource gap in low-income communities and schools. The students, most of whom live in D.C.’s underserved 7th and 8th Wards, study computer science and robotics daily and will have expanded the opportunity to hone their knowledge and skill thanks to the resources provided by this grant.
