This recording is a dance from the Metohija area filmed in the village of Decani, which lies near Pec. The performers are members of the folk group Sota, which performs in ethnic costumes. This group has been active in performing the dances and songs of the Kosovo area since the 1950s. In this recording, two women dance. One sings while dancing and playing the tambourine. The other dances using hand movements that obviously show Middle Eastern influences. This song is a wedding song “ Moj hatixhe shamikuqe ” (“Oh, Hatixhe has put on a red shawl”). Though known throughout Kosovo, this song is particularly loved in the Djakovica area. The song text reads approximately: “Oh, Hatixhe has put on a red shawl and will be married after Elbasani. Your mother will dye your hair. . .”
