Shaivite-Vaishnavite conflict which is now… is not a surface level but it's definitely below surface level still exists in India.
Gujarat and part of Madhya Pradesh … part of Rajasthan…part of UP and Delhi these I would consider as a cow belt.
These are predominantly upper caste strata of society … they worship Vaishnavism and they also worship cows.
If you take the other geographical regions … say Maharashtra, Ganesha is the most prominent deity and this naturally Ganesha is the son of Shiva so, it is a symbol of Shaivism… same thing in Goa and Kerala is Bhadrakali.
Bhadrakali is the most prominent powerful deity in Kerala and if you take Tamil Nadu also Shaivite shrines are more than Vaishnavite shrines but it is coexist.
The beauty is in this part people will go to the Vaishnav… people who practice Vaishnavite… Vaishnavism will go to Shiva temples and people who worship Shiva and think that Shaivite deity is the patron deity they go to the Vaishnavite temple also. So, they coexist… there is no conflict
But if you take the inherent way for this people's attitude which is in their mind they always get distracted by these two systems.
