Kaua'i: Lydgate Beach, Fern Grotto, Wailua River | 10: Exploring on the Smith's River Cruise

We took an open-air boat
We took an open-air boat upstream of the Wailua River to the Fern Grotto landing with the Smith's Kaua'i Motor Boat Company. There we enjoyed a short nature walk through the rainforest to the lush Fern Grotto. This two mile journey cruises through the freshwater of the river, that pours down from Mt. Wai'ale'ale, one of the wettest spots on the planet. The grotto roof was formed millions of years ago and the ferns grow upside down. The tour was about an hour and a half long, round trip. It was super relaxing and we enjoyed the songs, stories, and dances of ancient Hawaii.
We also went snorkeling at Lydgate beach, which is located on the East side of Kaua'i, next to the Wailua River. There were so many fish but the water wasn't as clear, but still visible. Heads up that there were signs to watch out for the poisonous Man O'War jellyfish. We also ended up catching the tail-end of the Farmer's Market at Coconut Marketplace (every Tuesday and Thursday). It's an open-air market experience with an eclectic mix of stores and casual dining establishments. After snorkeling, we brought Craig, Mom, & Dad to the Sleeping Giant Grill - a popular local favorite. Good food, great eatings. We had an amazing experience, we hope you enjoy!
