After Bacalar we took a 2 hour water taxi from Chetumal Mexico to Caye Caulker Belize through San Pedro Belize. That is the easiest way if you ask me to travel between the 2 countries. Customs was super quick because only a handful of people are on the boat. We stayed in an Air Bnb a little out of the strip on the west side of the island on a lagoon by the airport. The complex was beautifully landscaped and our small cottage was SO cute and had everything we needed for just the 2 nights we were going to be there for my birthday. The decor was very boho, lots of space with a lovely private outdoor deck, a pool, and a super comfy bed. Unfortunately, this is where the trip started to turn again. It rained for our only full day, my birthday. December is dry season and in our now 3 times in Belize it only ever rains in passing then sunny skies. However, this year they had an apparently wet December and this day was no exception, it poured all day. We weren't really prepared, didn't bring our rain jackets, but got a golf cart taxi to town vs walking which we prefer and hung around town all day. We weren't able to enjoy our usual spots like the Split, Lazy Lizard, and kayaking around, but we did get a coffee at our favorite breakfast spot Ice and Beans, Unfortunately because of the rain our favorite little cafe pup Itza was hiding somewhere. Later in the day we found a new bar in town where it seemed everyone was congregating from the rain and where they had some pretty entertaining karaoke. They called out birthdays and there were 5 of us there that night, Dec 12!! Despite the rain it wasn't a total wash. You can't be too disappointed when you're back in your paradise! Next stop was Coco Beach Resort in San Pedro, just a 30 min water taxi from Caye Caulker. We have never stayed here, and it did not disappoint! In fact we had no idea it was as nice as it was. We stayed in a honeymoon casita that sat just off one of the pools. They had a beautiful beach front pool as well that has a large heated swim up bar! The back pool also had a cool slide rock, that nearly killed both of us, lol! High speed, no joke! The next downturn was I started to feel sick the day we arrived, half way through our trip. So needless to say the remainder of the trip was spent with a lot of R&R, but that resort and casita were the perfect place for it! Turns out poolside naps are great! We rented a golf cart from our go to guy, and still managed to get out and visit some our favorite spots, Secret Beach, The Truck Stop, the Tipsy Lobster for Hobie's favorite grilled fish, and a new restaurant The Garage. We missed a lot of others, but that's how it turned out. Thankfully, the weather was still spotty so we didn't feel so bad doing a lot of lounging around the resort. The sun came out for our last day, so we were able to see some of the beautiful Belize that we love. We took the water taxi ride back to Chetumal for our last day where we flew out back home. Our only big take away was Chetumal is really just a good cheap stopping ground to get to to Bacalar, not a place to visit. That said it made for a great hub between Bacalar and Belzie. Till next time!
