Without the Beat Generation, would there have been a Grateful Dead? --- Something to ponder... Technically I am a little young to be a beatnik; but I always considered myself one, from 1962 to the present. Here is a mostly spoken-word poem for you about that.
I like to write poems and songs that delve into the lifestyles of different folks. In describing those lifestyles, I try to mention as many iconic touchstones as possible. This one is from my personal experience of being a beatnik since the age of 13, when I got my first beret. Presently I’ve got a hat tree with 10 berets in my hallway, along with a bunch of pork pie hats, Irish caps, cowboy hats… I had this song lying around unfinished for a few months. I took another look at it and was able to make it whole. I work way over 8 hours a day on my music, 7 days a week.
