Tonsil stones or tonsilloliths are
Tonsil stones or tonsilloliths are small calcium concretions that are seen in the tonsils. They are actually seen by examination or your doctor may pick it up when you visit your doctor in the clinic. Tonsil stones most of the times are asymptomatic. They do not cause any problems. But if they are causing any problems like recurrent infections and bad breath, it is treated by your ENT doctor by who will recommend a course of antibiotics depending on the size and the shape of the tonsils. He may tell you to improve your dental hygiene by taking some mouthwashes, proper gargling every, generally improving the oral hygiene. In any case if the tonsil stones are causing lot of problems, and by the conservative measures, the tonsil stones are not controlled and the halitosis and the recurrent infections are increasing, the doctor may even suggest to remove the tonsils. In any case don’t try to remove the tonsil stones yourself. Consult your ENT doctor as soon as possible so that he can give you a proper treatment.
