German fire trucks and police cars responding:
Alarm set off at the ancient downtown fire station of the Ravensburg Volunteer Fire Department.
Right at the beginning of the video you see the warning sign "fire department emergency" and that the traffic lights at the intersection will be deactivated to allow volunteers to get to the station easier and quicker. You see the volunteers arriving both by car and bicycle. After a few minutes they respond with the Rescue Engine, Chief Car 2, Tower Ladder 1 and the CAFS Engine. The Baden-Württemberg State Police is responding to the incident with two patrol cars (1 car and 1 van) as well.
The station is located in the former salt store, located right behind the town wall. A 170 ft tall town tower built from 1400 to 1418 is in the corner of the station plot as well.
First part of the former salt store was built in 1354 and 1355, 2nd construction phase was in 1520 to 1522; The city transformed the building into a fire station and the department moved into the station in 1983. Today the station consists both of the centuries old buildings and two newer apparatus halls; Very interesting setup!
