When a baby is born premature (early) or weighs less than 3 pounds at birth, retinopathy of prematurity (ROP) can occur. ROP occurs when abnormal blood vessels grow in the retina (the light-sensitive layer of tissue at the back of the eye). ROP can be mild in some babies and they get better without treatment. Some babies, however, need treatment to prevent blindness and protect their vision.
In this video, Dr. Huma Kiani will discuss the causes of Retinopathy Of Prematurity (ROP), and what you can do if you have it. She'll discuss the various causes of ROP, and the various treatments available for ROP.
